Welcome To Sevier County Association Of Baptists

The purpose of this Association is to promote Christian fellowship and cooperation among the churches affiliated with this Association, to encourage mutual cooperation with the Tennessee Baptist Convention and Southern Baptist Convention in carrying out the Great Commission, and to uphold the doctrines of our Baptist faith.

It is exciting to see what God is doing in Sevier County as our churches work together to witness, and win people to the Lord.  God can accomplish much through us if we are willing to be used of Him.  Let us be found faithful as we "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

As in the past, I am forwarding information from the TBMB and also the attachment which is a copy of #'s 2. & 3. from Page 3 from Governor Lee's Executive Order #30. This Order is in effect until May 29, 2020, until further notice. As we know, the information in these Orders can be updated on a daily basis.

This Order #30 has specific information in #2 that affects Camp Smoky even though we have all groups cancelled until the first of June. I continue to communicate with rental group leadership. With this information, I am reevaluating the June groups.

In #3 of this Order you find that churches are given permission to resume congregating but under several stipulations regarding safe and safer social gathering.

I have agreed with and appreciate the great work and ministry that the TBMB carries out and provides to us; the state's associations of churches, during this extreme time of crisis. Much thought and prayer have gone into our TBMB's ministry and help during these days.

The following is a list of precautions developed over the last several weeks by both the TBMB and our state government. Of course you have heard and seen these precautions many times but their importance may be of even greater consequence now because of #3 in this most recent Order.

1. Each and every church has the autonomy and freedom to make wise choices for their congregation and community.

2. You are encouraged to wait until June to resume in-person worship services. This gives society even more time to recover from the virus.

3. You are encouraged to continue worship through on-line streaming and drive-in services during the interim.

4. You are encouraged to continue the on-line streaming even after your have decided to meet in-person in order to continue to share the Gospel globally.

5. Practice social distancing of the 6' perimeter, attempt to limit worship attendance to 50% capacity of worship space, sanitize all touch areas used for worship, wear face masks, use hand sanitizer, no shaking hands or hugging, frequently washing of hands, no singing, carefully watching the areas of your church facility that will funnel worshippers into tighter spaces, consider not having multiple small groups in the church facility i.e. Sunday School classes, take your temperature at home if feeling bad, not going if feeling bad, not going if feeling uncomfortable about being in a larger group, being kind and considerate and patient with other's decisions including fellow church members and other churches.

6. Governor Lee's Executive Order #30 is in effect until May 29th and/or until any updates are presented.

7. As I stated above, I agree with the TBMB's stance. Therefore...both Pastor's Conferences for May 4th and 11th are cancelled. The Pastor's Conferences will resume June 1st until further notice. The Mission's Committee for May 5th is cancelled. The Executive Board Meeting for May 18th is cancelled. Our Church Revitalization Workshop for June 29th with Kevin Minchey is still a go. The Finance Committee Meeting for May 14th is also still a go. It is a committee of 6 people and we will meet in the large room while practicing #5 as stated above.

Please do not hesitate to to contact me, 865-603-0701, if I can be of any service. Thank you to those of you who have kept me informed as to your church's planning during these difficult days. I pray that your church will grow in Spiritual strength and in patience as you work through and actively minister to your church's community's needs.

To God be the Glory as we minister together! Robert
